Nearly 200,000 Sail on China’s First Large-Scale Cruise Ship

China’s first large-scale cruise ship, the Adora Magic City, has completed 46 voyages since its launch on January 1, 2024, with passenger numbers exceeding 190,000 and a satisfaction rate of over 95 percent.

The cruise ship weighs in at 135,500 tons and has a maximum height of 72.2 meters. It features 2,125 cabins, can accommodate up to 5,246 passengers, and is equipped with a 16-deck, 40,000-square-meter living and entertainment area, earning it the title of a “modern city at sea”.

Over the past six months, each voyage has served approximately 4,700 passengers, with more than 5,000 travelling on a single voyage in May this year.

Adora Magic City’s “Cruise + Culture” strategy is central to creating an immersive cultural experience for passengers. The ship showcases a fusion of Chinese and Western cultures, displaying China’s industrial, maritime, and Silk Road culture, as well as intangible cultural heritage.

Cultural activities aboard the ship include a variety of performances, including a New Year Party on the maiden voyage, magic flash mobs, traditional Chinese music extravaganzas, crosstalk shows, Dunhuang series lectures, song and dance performances, sea reading festivals and intangible cultural heritage-themed salons.

Currently, the Adora Magic City primarily operates cruises to Japan and South Korea. In the future, the ship will branch out to routes such as the “21st Century Maritime Silk Road”, offering a variety of long, medium and short cruise options to meet market demand.
