China’s First Set of Pure Steel Frogs Roll Off Production Line

The first set of pure steel railroad frogs to be constructed by China Railway Shanhaiguan Bridge Group, a subsidiary of China Railway Group Limited, have rolled off the production line, in what is a new milestone for China’s railway manufacturing sector.

A railroad frog is a pivotal component that keeps the wheels rolling from one track to another, having a big impact on the operational efficiency and lifespan of railway lines.

To achieve the goals of “high purity, high density, high stability and high durability”, the Shanhaiguan Bridge Group collaborated with domestic research institutes and technical experts across multiple disciplines to establish China’s first pure steel frog production line following extensive testing.

The newly introduced pure steel frog represents a significant advancement in wear and impact resistance, demonstrating a 1.7-fold increase in transport capacity and service life compared to ordinary high-manganese steel frogs.

The production line utilizes advanced equipment and intelligent manufacturing technologies such as eccentric bottom arc furnaces and 5G industrial networks, which reduce energy consumption and increase output.

Efficiency improvements include a 15 percent boost in overall production efficiency, a 7 percent reduction in energy usage and a 20 percent increase in annual production capacity, allowing for the production of up to 15,000 sets of frogs annually.

The commissioning of pure steel frogs will significantly enhance the safety, transport capacity and service life of China’s railway network while reducing maintenance and repair costs.

This advance will also position China’s railway frog products favorably for global markets.
