Indonesia’s largest land-based photovoltaic plant, designed and constructed by Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina), has been put into operation.
The 100 MW Karawang PV Project not only provides a significant boost to Indonesia’s clean energy sector but also marks a new chapter in energy cooperation between China and the Southeast Asian country.
Ninety percent of the equipment used in the project was sourced from China, integrating International Electrotechnical Commission standards with Chinese standards and making it a model for Chinese companies going global.
During construction, PowerChina overcame numerous challenges, setting new records for its overseas photovoltaic operations, including achieving initial grid connection within five months and completing the project within seven months.
The project created thousands of jobs for the surrounding region, entailed the skills training of a team of local employees, and made a positive contribution to economic development and employment stability in Bukit Indah City and nearby areas.
The plant will provide over 150 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually, meeting the annual power needs of approximately 112,000 households.
It will significantly reduce local electricity costs, support Indonesia’s energy transition and sustainable development goals, and greatly enhance the wellbeing of local communities.
