PowerChina Completes Indonesia’s Largest Hydropower Station

The Jatigede Hydropower Station, contracted by Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina), has recently received the official handover certificate from Indonesia’s state-owned electricity company, marking the successful completion and transfer of the entire project.

Located in Jatigede, Sumedang, West Java province, the hydropower station is the largest completed water conservancy project in Indonesia. It stands as a flagship project of Sino-Indonesian infrastructure cooperation and is entirely built with Chinese technology, funding, equipment, and solutions.

With a total installed capacity of 110 megawatts, the station is equipped with two 55 MW Francis turbine units and is designed to handle a water flow rate of 73 cubic meters per second. The station can generate an average of 450 million kWh annually and serves multiple purposes, including farmland irrigation, flood control, water supply, tourism, and power generation.

The station provides a stable water source for irrigating 109,000 hectares of land, benefiting nearly five million Indonesians.

The project plays a significant role in promoting Indonesia’s transition to a cleaner and more efficient energy structure. Additionally, the Jatigede area has become a popular tourist destination, driving substantial socioeconomic benefits for the surrounding regions.
