SPIC’s Overseas Photovoltaic Project Group Completed in Brazil

The Panati Photovoltaic Power Station in Brazil, invested and led by the Brazilian branch of China State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC), was officially put into operation on June 19.

The power station has an installed capacity of 292 megawatts and can provide clean energy for more than 350,000 local households every year.

The Panati photovoltaic power plant is in the northeastern Brazilian state of Ceará, covering a total area of 840 hectares and equipped with 446,000 solar panels. Together with the Marangatu photovoltaic power plant put into operation in Piauí on June 7, it forms a large-scale photovoltaic project group with a total installed capacity of 738 megawatts.

The plant began construction in December 2022 and achieved successful power transmission on December 1, 2023, meeting the conditions for grid-connected power generation.

Lin Guixiang, Chairman of SPIC Brazil, said at the commissioning ceremony that SPIC has always been committed to promoting green, innovative and integrated development. After the Panati photovoltaic power station is connected to the grid at full capacity, it will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 630,000 tons each year and make a positive contribution to addressing global climate change.

Jose Antonio de Freitas, the Governor of Ceará, who attended the commissioning ceremony, stressed the importance of developing renewable energy for Brazil. He said, “This project is a milestone for Ceará, where the abundant sunlight resources are beginning to produce more energy, wealth and jobs.”

Lan Heping, Chinese Consul General in Recife, sent a congratulatory letter to the commissioning of the power station, saying that China attaches importance to the new energy advantages of northeastern Brazil and strives to expand cooperation with the region in emerging fields such as green economy. With the strong support of the Ceará State Government, the commissioning of the SPIC Panati Photovoltaic Power Station not only brings huge economic and social development opportunities to Ceará, but also injects new impetus into the quality and upgrading of cooperation between the two countries.

SPIC Brazil, headquartered in São Paulo, is responsible for the development, construction, and operation of SPIC’s projects in Brazil. The operational assets include the Sao Simao Hydropower Station in Minas Gerais, the Ventos and Milagres Wind Power Projects in Paraíba, the Marangatu Solar Power Project in Piauí and the Panati Solar Power Project in Ceará. Additionally, SPIC Brazil collaborates with Prumo, Siemens Energy, and BP in the development, construction, and operation of the Açu Port Natural Gas Complex (GNA) project.
