COSCO SHIPPING Builds Full-Chain Channel to Support Grain Transportation From North to South

In the golden autumn that carries the fragrance of harvested rice, grain transportation from north to south is reaching its peak, and China COSCO SHIPPING Corporation Limited is gradually building a full-chain transportation channel, ensuring large quantities of grain can move from the granary of northeast China to the south of the country.

COSCO SHIPPING Lines’ Dalian branch is leveraging its extensive route network, combining port and inland resources to create a multi-modal transportation platform offering “shipping + ports + logistics” services. This has resulted in a networked layout of “channels + routes”, successfully delivering logistics services to inland points. By the end of the year, the total transportation volume is expected to surpass 13 million tons, with goods ranging from brown rice, white rice and soybeans to miscellaneous grains and processed grain products.

The Dalian branch is promoting its innovative end-to-end services that include “one ticket for all, one-time shipping and one-time settlement”. It has upgraded its logistics channels, covering areas such as Kaiyuan, Baicheng and Xifeng across Liaoning and Jilin provinces, enhancing stability and scalability. By breaking away from traditional customer-supplier relationships and utilizing high-quality customer depots, it has expanded inland container return points, improving logistics coverage in central cities. To date, the company has launched 32 rail-sea intermodal trains and opened 88 container return points, building a “land-sea” logistics network that covers the northeastern hinterland.

Dalian has set up an EDI messaging function for container management at inland transit points, providing real-time tracking of container status and enabling online operations through the TMS system, simplifying offline container pickup and return procedures.

The company has also leveraged various container types, including rail containers and 35-ton open-top containers, to achieve zero loss and zero discrepancy during transportation and transshipment, significantly reducing operating costs for clients in terms of empty container repositioning and loading capacity at inland points.
