Anhui SOE to Work on Major Thai Potash Mine

The China Coal Mine Construction Group Co., Ltd. (CCMC), one of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Anhui Province, recently won the EPC+O contract for the construction of Thai Kali’s underground potash mine project in Dan Khun Thot district, Thailand’s Nakhon Ratchasima Province.

The contract, worth 1.35 billion yuan ($178.5 million), is a significant breakthrough in CCMC’s overseas market development and is the fourth overseas contract secured by the company in the last year.

CCMC has fully leveraged its core technical strengths in mining construction to actively participate in energy and mining infrastructure development across countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

The group’s efforts have delivered tangible results in a series of landmark projects.

The Uzbekistan Shargun coalmine modernization project, for instance, has become the country’s first underground coal mine equipped with the most advanced production capabilities.

In Serbia, the Čukaru Peki copper and gold mine project, a key BRI demonstration initiative, successfully adopted advanced deep shaft blasting techniques, achieving a record-breaking monthly shaft construction progress of over 120 meters.

Meanwhile, the Mboukoumassi potash freezing project in the Republic of the Congo, the group’s first overseas potash mine freezing initiative, completed the drilling of four shafts 68 days ahead of schedule.

Through reorganization with Hefei Design and Research Institute of Coal Industry Co., Ltd., the group is building a full industrial chain enterprise that integrates exploration, design, consultation, construction, mining, operation and restoration.

In collaboration with China University of Mining and Technology-Beijing, CCMC established a research center focused on the efficient and safe development of potash mines.

It has developed a comprehensive set of mining and backfilling techniques for underground solid potash, with two submitted work methods recognized as globally leading.

The Serbian Čukaru Peki copper and gold mine project is another example of innovation, with the self-designed main shaft headframe weighing 2,635 tons set to break a global record for shaft headframe installations.

Additionally, the Thai Kali’s Potash mine EPC+O project integrates design, construction and operation services, further advancing the adoption of Chinese standards and solutions in international markets.

CCMC is also committed to strengthening connections with local communities in the countries where it operates. By deeply embedding itself in local economic and social development, the group has created 2,137 jobs for residents in BRI countries.

It has undertaken 25 investment and cooperation projects across 12 countries in regions such as Southeast Asia, Central Africa and Eastern Europe, constructing 13 shafts and extracting over 30 million tons of strategic mineral resources.

Beyond its economic contributions, the group has actively participated in community-building initiatives, including the donation of office supplies and educational materials, and local medical outreach programs.

Since 2024, CCMC has achieved historic highs in its overseas business development, with contract value, revenue and profit all reaching unprecedented levels.

Looking ahead, the group will continue to focus on high-quality contributions to the BRI, supporting the sustainable development of the global energy and mining industries.
