Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026 Launches Three Complementary Initiatives to Showcase Italian Design

Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026 has further strengthened its role as an international platform, transcending the mere dimension of an exhibition to become an important space focusing on contemporary design, carrying narratives, reflections and visions. On-site, it was observed that the exhibition launched three complementary initiatives: "ABITO", "La Filiera delle Meraviglie" (The Marvelous Supply Chain) and "Made in MiC", which showcase the charm of Italian design from different perspectives and closely interweave production, culture, memory and the future.

La Filiera delle Meraviglie: Eighty Years of Industry Accumulation and Identity, Telling the History of Italian Design

"La Filiera delle Meraviglie" (The Marvelous Supply Chain) is exhibited in the reception area of Pavilions 2-4. Through a visually immersive experience, it traces the development history of Italy’s wood and furniture industrial chain to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the establishment of FederlegnoArredo (Italian Federation of Wood and Furniture Industries). On-site observation shows that the exhibition is curated by Beppe Finessi, with graphic design by Mauro Bubbico and exhibition design by Massimo Curzi. It focuses on showing the precious heritage composed of enterprises, skills and manufacturing capabilities — a heritage that has played a decisive role in establishing Made in Italy globally.

ABITO: When Fashion and Design Tell the Story of Time Changes

The "ABITO" exhibition is promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and curated by Palomba Serafini Associati. It places fashion and design in dialogue as important carriers for interpreting society and lifestyles. Spanning more than a century of history, the exhibition presents garments from the Collezione Quinto Tinarelli (Quinto Tinarelli Collection) alongside Italian design pieces still in production. The core of the exhibition focuses on the human body and space as two major narrative carriers, intuitively showing the changes in contemporary culture, society and lifestyles.

Made in MiC: Empowering Design with Cultural Heritage

With the "Made in MiC" initiative, the Italian Ministry of Culture has officially integrated into the Salone del Mobile.Milano system in a permanent form, placing cultural heritage at the core of contemporary design. On-site, it was learned that the core of the exhibition is the "Archetipi" (Archetypes) section, which explores in depth the roots of Italian design among applied arts, craftsmanship and proto-design between 1900 and 1945.

Based on this historical foundation, a number of museum institutions, including Grande Brera (Brera Art Gallery), VIVE, GNAMC (National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art) and Museo Galileo (Galileo Museum), have transformed cultural heritage into contemporary products, high-end derivatives and new forms of cultural production. The exhibition is also accompanied by a series of forums to promote in-depth dialogue between institutions, designers, enterprises and researchers.

A Collective Narrative of Made in Italy

On-site observation found that these three initiatives together outline a unified vision: Italian design, as a complex cultural expression, is rooted in industrial chains, historical memory and innovation capabilities. At Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026, this project has become an important carrier for understanding the present of Made in Italy and building its future, demonstrating the unique charm of the industry’s integration of tradition and modernity.
