COSCO Shipping’s 400,000-ton Ore Carrier "Yuanjianhai" Starts Regular Full-Load Berthing at Caofeidian Port

On May 17, the 400,000-ton ultra-large ore carrier "Yuanjianhai" of China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company (COSCO Shipping), fully loaded with Brazilian iron ore, smoothly berthed at the Ore Terminal of Caofeidian Port Area, officially starting regular full-load berthing at the port area. On the same day, the ship sailed into the Bohai Bay at its maximum draft and completed full-load operations.

It is understood that in September 2022, the "Yuanjinhai" wheel of COSCO Shipping Bulk Shipping, as the first 400,000-ton ship to berth fully loaded, set three records at Caofeidian Port Area for ultra-large bulk carriers: the largest cargo volume, the largest deadweight tonnage and the largest draft. Now, the "Yuanjianhai" wheel, also a 400,000-ton class ship, has realized regular berthing, and "able to arrive, berth stably and sail smoothly" has become a daily routine for COSCO Shipping at Caofeidian Port Area.

As a key port in northern China, Caofeidian Port has advanced berthing facilities and efficient operation capabilities, which can fully meet the berthing and operation needs of 400,000-ton ultra-large ore carriers. The regular full-load berthing of 400,000-ton ships will greatly reduce regional logistics costs by optimizing the transportation route and improving loading and unloading efficiency, reducing the cost of iron ore transportation for enterprises in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

Iron ore is an important strategic resource for China’s industrial development, and stable and efficient transportation is crucial to ensuring the smooth operation of the steel industry and industrial chain. The regular berthing of the "Yuanjianhai" wheel further improves the capacity of Caofeidian Port to receive ultra-large ships, strengthens the port’s position as a key hub for bulk cargo transportation in northern China, and enhances the stability and security of China’s iron ore import and transportation channels.

In the future, COSCO Shipping will continue to deepen cooperation with Caofeidian Port, optimize the layout of shipping routes, increase the frequency of ultra-large ship calls, and further play the role of maritime transportation in connecting domestic and foreign markets. This will inject strong maritime momentum into promoting the economic development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and ensuring the safety of resource transportation.
