China Unicom Launches Harbin International Communication Gateway and China-Russia Cross-Border Express Line

Recently, China Unicom officially launched the Harbin International Communication Service Gateway Bureau and released the China-Russia Cross-Border Express Line. This move not only unblocks the information "artery" for China’s opening up to the north, but also builds a high-quality digital new channel for cross-border services.

As the first regional international communication hub in Northeast China facing Russia’s Far East and Europe, China Unicom’s Harbin International Communication Service Gateway Bureau serves as a forward position for China’s cooperation with Russia and an important hub for regional cooperation in Northeast Asia. Since its launch, the gateway bureau has been able to provide large-bandwidth and diversified intelligent connection services at home and abroad, shortening the communication distance between European parts of Russia and Vladivostok in the Far East by more than 1,000 kilometers and reducing transmission latency.

It also enriches the communication routes connecting core areas of Russia with China, Japan and South Korea, providing better guarantees for the safe circulation of cross-border data. Such an efficient cross-border communication layout is crucial to deepening economic and digital cooperation between China and Russia, as well as promoting regional connectivity in Northeast Asia.

Known as the transport base and core capacity engine of the intelligent era, Optical Transport Network (OTN) equipment features "hard pipeline" isolation, which can accurately support emerging business needs such as AI large model training and real-time interaction, making it an indispensable transmission artery in the intelligent era. China Unicom has added a set of international OTN equipment at the Harbin International Communication Service Gateway Bureau, and built one 100G OTN system each at Harbin Node, Fuyuan Border Station and Heihe Border Station, forming a "1+2" network architecture.

This architecture has significantly enhanced accessibility, service bearing capacity and service quality, opening up new space for the development of international business in Heilongjiang Province. Notably, the project took only two months from the start of planning to launch and operation, reflecting efficient construction capabilities.

China Unicom’s China-Russia Cross-Border Express Line can provide 10-gigabit bandwidth access, with the ability to meet access needs of different business scenarios such as cross-border e-commerce, cross-border manufacturing, cross-border settlement, internal management of transnational enterprises, data processing, game services, distance education and telemedicine. As an important supporting project of the Harbin International Communication Service Gateway Bureau, the two were launched simultaneously, jointly building a "digital lifeline" for cross-border communication from Heilongjiang to the north.

Moving forward, China Unicom will further optimize the cross-border communication network, expand service scenarios, and continuously improve the stability and efficiency of cross-border services. This will provide strong digital support for Heilongjiang enterprises to go global, promote the high-quality development of Sino-Russian trade and economic cooperation, and further consolidate the information foundation for China’s opening up to the north.
