Sichuan Western Gasfield Hits Major Output Milestones to Secure Regional Energy Supply

Sinopec Southwest Oil and Gas Branch’s Western Sichuan gasfield has delivered stable energy output since its full commissioning, effectively underpinning natural gas supply security for Chengdu and surrounding areas in Sichuan province.

By May 18, the large-scale onshore gasfield had produced more than 4 billion cubic metres of natural gas and over 260,000 tonnes of sulphur. The steady output of conventional clean energy and by-products supports regional industrial operation and residential energy consumption across the Chengdu economic circle.

Fully operational since 2024, the gasfield has adopted a refined integrated operational management system to advance reserve expansion and production growth. Operational optimisation focuses on four core dimensions including production allocation adjustment, abnormal condition handling, standardised operation improvement and energy consumption reduction. Field teams dynamically regulate production pressure and well output allocation based on real-time operational data, while implementing rigorous safety risk control mechanisms to maintain stable gas volume and consistent gas quality.

Targeted energy-saving and efficiency-enhancing measures cover water, electricity and gas consumption management across the production site. The facility continuously improves recycled water utilisation rates and optimises power system operation modes to reduce unnecessary energy loss throughout the production process. Systematic technological and managerial upgrades drive sustainable and low-carbon development of conventional gas production.

As a key energy base in southwest China, the Western Sichuan gasfield undertakes critical supply guarantee tasks for densely populated and industrially developed regions in Sichuan. Standardised operational management and refined technological control will further unlock the production potential of existing gas wells. Continuous optimisation of operational efficiency will sustain long-term stable gas supply and support the steady development of regional energy systems.
