Shanghai Port Hits New Round-the-Clock Container Handling Record Amid Surging Global Shipping Demand
As reported by China Communications News, Shanghai International Port (Group) has set two fresh operational benchmarks for container throughput, underpinning the port’s standing as the world’s leading container hub and reinforcing stable global industrial and supply chain circulation.
The port recorded a round-the-clock handling volume of 187,312 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), surpassing the previous all-time high of 174,338 TEUs logged on 30 October 2025. A single shift also delivered 68,088 TEUs of container throughput, breaking the prior shift record of 64,423 TEUs established on 4 November 2023.
The new milestones reflect unmatched operational efficiency, robust resilience to peak operational pressures, and refined cross-terminal co-ordination capabilities across the entire port complex.

Global shipping activity has maintained an upward trajectory, bringing concentrated vessel arrivals and stacked operational workloads that stretch berths, container yards and supporting infrastructure to full capacity.
The port operator follows a unified whole-port management framework aligned with national initiatives to foster robust domestic and international economic circulation.
Real-time analysis of shipping market trends, vessel arrival schedules and terminal resource loadings underpins dynamic adjustments to end-to-end production arrangements, with day and night operating schedules refined to deliver precise dispatch control, optimal resource allocation and granular on-site supervision.
Such integrated operational methods drive steady high-quality development across the port’s full operational footprint.
The port operator will carry forward its industry-leading operational momentum, centering all development work on high-quality growth. Upgrades to intelligent port operating frameworks will continue to boost core handling capacity and raise the standard of comprehensive shipping services.
The upgraded infrastructure and operational systems will expand the radiating, guiding and catalytic influence of the Shanghai International Shipping Centre across regional and global maritime trade networks.
