Jiangsu Power Load Hits Fresh Record High Amid Sustained Summer Heat

According to People’s Network, Jiangsu Province registered a new all-time high power grid load at 157.59 million kilowatts at 11:15 on 16 July. The milestone marks ten consecutive years for Jiangsu’s power grid peak load exceeding 100 million kilowatts, demonstrating robust power consumption momentum across the region.

Jiangsu officially entered the dog days on 15 July, with widespread high temperatures driving continuous growth in regional electricity demand. Suzhou’s local power grid recorded a peak load of 35.835 million kilowatts amid the heatwave. Official power consumption statistics show Jiangsu’s total social electricity consumption reached 427.859 billion kilowatt-hours in the first half of the year, representing a year-on-year increase of 5.57 per cent. The growth rate is 2.25 percentage points higher than the figure recorded in the same period last year.

Power demand pressure has intensified notably since May. Jiangsu’s maximum power grid load has remained above 100 million kilowatts for 73 consecutive days, with the sustained high-load duration far exceeding previous seasonal levels. The prolonged operating status raises stricter requirements for grid dispatching, operational arrangement and daily equipment maintenance.

Local meteorological and power operational data indicate a notable increase in high-temperature days across Jiangsu throughout this summer. Further growth in electricity consumption is expected in the coming weeks, with the provincial grid peak load projected to break 164 million kilowatts in the subsequent heatwave stages.

Grid operational teams continue to optimise real-time dispatching strategies and strengthen full-cycle equipment inspection and risk control mechanisms. Targeted operational adjustments are being implemented to cope with evolving load fluctuations and secure stable and reliable power supply for industrial production and residential livelihoods amid persistent extreme high temperatures.
