China Railway Handles 432 Million Passengers in First Half of 2026 Summer Transport Rush
According to China State Railway Group, the national railway network has maintained safe and stable operation throughout the first half of the 2026 summer travel peak. Launched on July 1, the annual summer railway campaign recorded a total passenger volume of 432 million person-times by July 31, marking steady and orderly transportation services across the country.
Railway authorities across multiple regions have rolled out targeted service upgrades and operational arrangements to ensure smooth and comfortable summer travel experiences for passengers. Inner Mongolia’s local railway stations have set up dedicated service stations equipped with heatstroke prevention supplies, including traditional Chinese medicine preventive preparations and cooling balms. Real-time high-temperature weather alerts and travel reminders are broadcast regularly to support passenger comfort amid seasonal heatwaves.
Regional railway operators have launched specialised tourist trains to cater to booming summer travel demand. Shandong-based railway services have opened multiple tourist routes heading for popular destinations including Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia, delivering high-quality travel experiences characterised by efficient transportation and immersive scenic visits.

The cultural and intangible heritage themed cross-border tourist train departing on July 14 stands out as the country’s first provincial intangible cultural heritage railway service travelling to Xinjiang, enriching the diversity of themed summer travel products.
Railway hubs in Shaanxi have optimised on-site security and operational workflows during the peak travel period. Staffing schedules and security channel arrangements are dynamically adjusted based on real-time ticket reservation data and train operation plans. Refined management of passenger entry and exit routes, together with flexible tuning of ticket checking and service closing hours, effectively improves station passing efficiency and relieves passenger flow pressure.
As the summer travel rush continues, railway departments will sustain refined operational management, continuously optimise passenger service measures and tailor transport capacity allocation to fluctuating travel demands. Diversified themed routes and upgraded grassroots service guarantees will further support domestic summer tourism mobility and ensure consistent, high-standard railway transportation services for subsequent peak travel phases.
