China’s power market traded volume surges in first half of the year

Figures obtained from the National Energy Administration show that China’s cumulative electricity volume traded on power markets reached 3,684.8 billion kilowatt‑hours in the first half of the year, marking a 24.2 per‑cent year‑on‑year rise.

Market‑traded electricity hit 627.5 billion kilowatt‑hours across the country in June alone, up 20.8 per‑cent compared with the same period a year earlier. Intra‑provincial transactions contributed 477.4 billion kilowatt‑hours for the month, representing a 24.1 per‑cent year‑on‑year increase, while inter‑provincial and cross‑regional traded volume stood at 150.1 billion kilowatt‑hours, climbing 11.3 per‑cent year‑on‑year.

Breakdowns by trading categories indicate medium‑ and long‑term transactions accounted for 577.4 billion kilowatt‑hours in June. Spot market transactions registered 50.1 billion kilowatt‑hours. Green power trades totalled 27.5 billion kilowatt‑hours, a 15 per‑cent uplift from the corresponding period last year.

Ongoing development of the unified national power market continues to expand the scope of market‑oriented electricity transactions. Market participants are set to take part in diversified trading activities in the months ahead. Cross‑regional power flows will keep optimising resource allocation across different regions, and green‑power trading channels will remain open for market players to meet rising clean‑energy consumption demands.
