National Energy Transition Forum Opens in Yulin, Releases Research Report on Energy Revolution Demonstration Zone

The 2026 Forum on Energy Economy and High-Quality Development Under Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality Goals convenes on 6 August in Yulin, a core national energy base in northern Shaanxi Province, with the official theme “Towards New Growth, Green Development and Sustainable Futures”. The event serves as a cross-stakeholder dialogue platform for sharing practical experience in low-carbon transformation, aligning industry consensus and pooling resources to advance comprehensive green upgrades across economic and social sectors nationwide.

Delegates in attendance frame the green and low-carbon restructuring of economic activities as a core driver for sustained high-quality development. All discussion sessions centre on coordinated progress in carbon reduction, pollution abatement, ecological expansion and economic expansion, alongside deepened reforms to the national energy system. The forum places renewable and clean energy expansion at the heart of policy and industrial roadmaps, framing clean energy transition as the foundational pillar for system-wide green transformation across all industries.

The gathering draws participants from central government departments, regional administrative authorities, industrial operators and academic research institutions, bringing together multi-disciplinary expertise to address practical challenges in decarbonising fossil fuel-dependent regions. A suite of research deliverables is formally unveiled during the opening plenary, most prominently the 2026 Research Report on Innovative Practices of Yulin National Energy Revolution Innovation Demonstration Zone.

As the country’s designated pilot hub for reconciling fossil energy supply with low-carbon innovation, Yulin has built an integrated multi-energy framework combining coal, oil, natural gas, wind, solar power and green hydrogen. Local industrial upgrades span intelligent coal mining, carbon capture utilisation and storage, green hydrogen production and high-value new material manufacturing, forming replicable models for other resource-rich regions across China. The newly published report compiles two years of on-site industrial data, technical breakthroughs and policy trials within the demonstration zone, outlining scalable pathways for high-carbon industrial bases to cut emissions while preserving stable energy supply capacity.

Forum participants will continue to exchange actionable industrial strategies throughout the two-day agenda, covering grid integration of variable renewable power, market mechanisms for green power trading and technical standards for low-carbon industrial processes. Research teams and industrial operators will launch joint research initiatives stemming from the findings laid out in the newly released report, rolling out targeted pilot projects to refine multi-energy complementary systems and green industrial chains within Yulin and comparable resource cities nationwide.
