China Southern Guizhou posts robust passenger growth in peak summer travel first month
China Southern Airlines Guizhou branch has delivered solid operational results in the first month of the 2026 summer travel rush, recording steady growth in flight volume and passenger throughput amid seasonal travel surges.
Between 1 July and 31 July, the airline operated a total of 2,510 flights, with daily flight movements rising by 4.19 percent year on year. During the same period, its passenger throughput at Guiyang Airport reached 525,000, representing a year-on-year increase of 10.55 percent. Breakdown data shows outbound passengers stood at 257,000, up 5.88 percent annually, while inbound passengers hit 268,000 with a sharper year-on-year growth of 15.45 percent. The carrier handled 229,900 pieces of inbound and outbound baggage in the month, marking an 18.02 percent year-on-year rise.
The dual growth of inbound and outbound passenger flow, alongside faster inbound growth, quantitatively reflects the rising appeal of Guizhou as a favoured summer tourist and leisure destination. As a core operator of Guizhou’s civil aviation network, China Southern Airlines Guizhou branch has tailored its capacity layout to meet concentrated summer travel demands covering family visits, tourism and study tours. It has increased flight frequencies on eight popular routes linking Guiyang with Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Urumqi, Zhuhai, Taizhou, Hohhot and Ningbo, adding 506 extra flights in total. Capacity expansion is concentrated on routes to East China, while the Guiyang-Urumqi route has been upgraded to three daily flights, offering flexible travel options across morning and afternoon schedules.

In terms of operational guarantee, the airline achieved nearly 7,000 safe flight hours in July, an increase of 255.6 hours compared with the same period last year. A total of 1,776 flights departed from Guiyang, with a departure punctuality rate of 83.22 percent. Facing intensive flight schedules and frequent extreme weather conditions including thunderstorms and typhoons, the carrier has adopted refined human resource management and rigorous control over key operational links to stabilise flight safety and minimise weather-related disruptions.
Special passenger services have been further optimised during the peak season. The airline served nearly 3,000 unaccompanied children in July, with the single-day service peak approaching 200 young passengers. A full-process closed-loop service system has been implemented for minor passengers, including advance telephone notification one day before departure, exclusive check-in counters, dedicated document bags and identification badges, on-board seating near cabin crew for attentive care, and passenger information verification upon arrival to ensure safe and smooth travel experiences for unaccompanied minors.
In-flight service innovation has enriched the travel experience for passengers. On 1 July, the carrier launched a themed red culture flight on the Guiyang-Daxing Beijing route, integrating local revolutionary cultural heritage. A series of cabin activities have been rolled out on premium routes, incorporating the cultural connotation of the Four Crosses of the Chishui River and the folk characteristics of Guizhou’s grassroots football events through themed broadcasts and interactive sessions. Local catering specialties including Guizhou-style noodles, characteristic tea and boutique coffee are continuously provided on board to showcase regional cultural features.
As the summer travel peak continues, China Southern Airlines Guizhou branch will maintain stable and safe flight operations and continuously upgrade service quality. Optimised and efficient air transport services will continue to support the social and economic development of Guizhou province throughout the peak travel period.
