Many operators in these fields still face sub‑par system and unit energy performance, insufficient waste‑heat recovery and limited uptake of renewable power.

Selected leader cases will deliver segmented threshold benchmarks by product and process. Five additional sub‑sectors enter the selection pool: industrial sulphuric acid, industrial glacial acetic acid, formaldehyde, styrene and monocrystalline silicon. Industrial sulphuric acid, glacial acetic acid, formaldehyde and styrene function as fundamental chemical feedstocks feeding extensive downstream chains and hold considerable untapped energy‑saving capacity. Monocrystalline silicon serves as a foundational material for photovoltaic and semiconductor manufacturing; its operational efficiency bears directly on China’s competitive standing within global new‑energy and chip supply chains. The total number of sub‑sectors included under the energy‑efficiency leader scheme now reaches 43, achieving full coverage of all industries laid down in the 2023 Benchmark and Baseline Levels for Energy Efficiency in Key Industrial Domains.
Officials from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology note that authorities will carry forward selection and promotion work in line with the circular provisions.
