Guodian Power reports half‑year results with installed capacity topping 130 GW
Guodian Power, under China Energy Investment Corporation, released its 2026 half‑year report on 18 August. By the end of June, its total installed capacity had surpassed 130 GW, representing an increase of 3.5026 GW compared with the close of 2025. Total power generation for the first six months reached 218.91 billion kWh, a year‑on‑year rise of 6.25 per cent.
Amid complex and challenging power‑market conditions, energy‑supply security sits at the core of operational priorities. The business has strengthened meteorological assessment and production organisation for extreme‑weather events, enforced safety‑management responsibilities across all tiers and carried out comprehensive hazard identification and remediation. Drills for emergency response have been stepped up for summer peak demand, typhoon defence and flood prevention to reinforce operational safety barriers.
Teams seize generation opportunities through the summer high‑load period, striving for higher electricity volumes and favourable pricing to lift operational returns. Industrial synergies are further unlocked by aligning new‑energy assets with electricity‑sales operations to boost overall profitability. Initiatives including the “Management Enhancement Year” and efficiency‑improvement programmes refine internal governance. Targeted turnaround mechanisms are applied on an enterprise‑by‑enterprise basis to realise performance potential. A cost‑leadership strategy is being implemented, with strict fuel‑cost controls and long‑term coal supply contracts deployed as a stabilising measure to drive down operating expenditure.

Low‑carbon energy transition is being advanced at pace, centred on large‑scale new‑energy bases and flagship projects. New business models such as direct green‑power connection and energy‑storage schemes are explored to foster integration between renewables and emerging industry formats.
Significant technical milestones have been achieved through research‑and‑development work. The world’s first boiler integrating flue‑gas coupled molten‑salt heat storage, deployed on Unit 4 of Langfang Thermal Power Phase II, has successfully passed trial‑run assessments with all operational parameters meeting design specifications.
China’s first thousand‑tonne‑scale pilot system for real‑flue‑gas carbon capture completed its 72‑hour continuous trial operation. Digital‑worker applications built upon the thermal‑power digital‑control platform have gone live, supporting the shift of conventional coal‑fired plants towards safer, more efficient, low‑carbon and intelligent modes of operation.
Further construction work on new‑energy bases and demonstration technical facilities will proceed in coming months. Operational datasets from newly‑commissioned pilot installations will feed into ongoing technical optimisation, as the firm balances reliable power supply, commercial performance and decarbonisation targets.
