Maritime Silk Road Launches Trade Data Platform, Entering Digital Ecosystem Phase

According to People’s Daily, the Maritime Silk Road trade data service platform operated by Fujian ports has accumulated global trade datasets covering 230 countries and regions and three million commodity types since its launch in March this year. The milestone marks the transition of the Maritime Silk Road from the construction of shipping routes to the development of a digital ecosystem.

The Outline of the 15th Five-Year Plan sets out goals to advance integrated development of ports, shipping and trade for the Maritime Silk Road. Built as an end-to-end, full-scenario digital hub, the platform delivers market insights and client development support for import and export enterprises, route and order analysis for port and logistics operators, risk assessment tools for financial institutions, and data-backed industrial planning for government bodies. Deep integration between the Maritime Silk Road and trade data services acts as a core driver for the integrated advancement of ports, shipping and trade.

The Maritime Silk Road represents a Belt and Road international integrated logistics brand and platform centred on maritime transport. Meteorological services form an integral component of its service system and run through the whole port-shipping-trade value chain. Fujian has built a full-chain meteorological support framework anchored in oceanic weather routing, linking offshore meteorological observation and port weather services. A dedicated Maritime Silk Road port meteorological risk agent displays and evaluates real-time weather risks across 58 domestic and international ports on one unified interface.

The global meteorological navigation service under the Maritime Silk Road now covers the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans, serving container ships, general cargo vessels and chemical tankers. The service achieves an average route optimisation rate of 30 per cent.

The platform and supporting meteorological infrastructure will continue to upgrade digital capabilities and cross-border navigation services, supporting smoother international maritime trade flows along the routes of the Maritime Silk Road.
