China’s county-level commercial network matures as rural consumption upgrades

According to CCTV News, county-level commercial infrastructure across China has undergone steady improvement throughout the year, enriching local product and service supplies and driving accelerated upgrading of consumption in rural and county areas.

New commercial facilities are reshaping local consumption scenarios in inland county regions. The first comprehensive commercial complex in Dongkou County, Shaoyang City, Hunan Province, has officially commenced operations.

The venue has introduced multiple national chain brands catering to catering and apparel demands, alongside immersive experience-oriented consumption formats including flight theatres and parent-child entertainment zones, forming new local consumption hotspots.

China has further optimised the layout of grassroots commercial outlets this year. Up to now, authorities have built and renovated 3,159 comprehensive county-level commercial service centres, 15,000 township commercial hubs and 168,000 village-level convenience stores, establishing full coverage of commercial service networks spanning counties, townships and villages nationwide.

County-level consumption is undergoing a structural shift from basic supply adequacy to high-quality, diversified service provision. In Shuangjiang County, Lincang City, Yunnan Province, local authorities have integrated rural passenger transport, express delivery, supermarket retail and postal services to launch an innovative passenger-cargo-post integrated delivery model. Smart terminal scheduling systems have streamlined logistics arrangements, cutting delivery times for remote villages from two to three days to within a single day.

By August this year, more than 3,600 county and township logistics distribution outlets have been upgraded and expanded across the country, solidifying the modern rural logistics system. Over 100 million parcels circulate between urban and rural areas on a daily basis, delivering convenient commercial services to residents in remote rural communities.
