Yanqing Forms Three Mass‑oriented Art Troupes to Boost Grass‑roots Cultural Activities

According to People’s Daily Online, a mass‑art gala under the theme “Three Troupes Perform, Residents Rejoice” was held in Yanqing District, Beijing, alongside local ceremonies for the 2026 Chinese Farmers’ Harvest Festival. Guided by the Publicity Department of Yanqing District Party Committee, the event was jointly run by the district’s Bureau of Culture and Tourism and Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

Drawing on local cultural assets linked to the Great Wall, the International Horticultural Exhibition and the Winter Olympic Games, performances dug deep into regional cultural heritage, folk intangible heritage and stories of urban‑rural development. Centred on public participation, innovative folk heritage and original creative outputs, the programme helped local grass‑roots artistic work move from lively gatherings towards polished productions.

Official plaques were presented on‑site to inaugurate three new mass‑oriented troupes: a song‑and‑dance ensemble, a folk‑arts troupe and a drama company. The whole gala unfolded in three acts, namely *Watching over the Great Wall*, *Joy along the Gui River* and *Deep Affection for the Land*.

It featured grass‑roots performers alongside rising local talents and professional artists from three Beijing municipal theatre companies, under a partnership framework. Both live‑venue shows and online streaming were available to widen public access.

A series of activities had kicked off back in April under the official event plan. Seventy‑three performances have been delivered across the district, with more than 5 000 amateur performers putting on 998 individual acts.

Over one hundred high‑quality items have been short‑listed for follow‑up shows, and core members for the three newly‑established troupes have been selected from participating amateur artists.

Ten touring stops are scheduled after the flagship gala to nurture grass‑roots artistic teams across towns and townships.

Opening ceremonies for the local 2026 Chinese Farmers’ Harvest Festival and the Yanqing session of the 37th Beijing Farmers’ Arts Festival “Rural Big Stage” ran concurrently. The venue contained five functional zones covering harvest‑themed markets, industrial integration displays, live‑streaming areas, interactive exhibition spots and stage performances. This festival formed part of Yanqing’s publicity week for ethnic‑unity progress.

New multi‑format consumption spaces were created to showcase rural entrepreneurs’ achievements and energise rural industries. Farmers took centre‑stage throughout the festival agenda.
