LNG carrier Lvneng Hai named and delivered for CNOOC
According to China National Offshore Oil Corporation, 30 October 2026, Lvneng Hai, the second vessel of Phase Two of CNOOC’s medium‑term FOB supporting LNG carrier project, was named and handed over at Changxing Island in Shanghai. Eight out of the twelve vessels in the project have now been completed, marking two‑thirds of the delivery programme.
The vessel adopts the fifth‑generation Changheng series design developed domestically. It measures 299 metres in length and 46.4 metres in breadth, with a designed LNG capacity of 174,000 cubic metres. Its cargo volume can supply gas for around seven million households for one month.

It is fitted with the latest cargo containment system, achieving a natural boil‑off rate as low as 0.085 per cent. An LNG cryogenic unit is installed to further reduce vapour generation from the tanks. Its dual‑fuel main engine is equipped with an intelligent exhaust gas recirculation unit and water treatment system, meeting IMO Tier III nitrogen oxide emission limits under both fuel and gas modes. The vessel has lower overall energy consumption, wider compartment compatibility, improved cargo capacity and better route adaptability compared with the preceding generation.
The full project comprises twelve 174,000 cubic metre LNG carriers, split equally between Phase One and Phase Two. The already delivered Lvneng series vessels operate across more than fifty receiving terminals on five continents. Four hulls remain under construction. The third vessel of Phase Two has completed its second dry‑docking inspection and outer plate painting ahead of handover. The fourth is being prepared for sea trials. Cargo tanks on the fifth have been finished, with equipment testing underway. The sixth is undergoing equipment installation and testing, alongside invar tightness checks on cargo domes and side access openings. All vessels in the project are scheduled for delivery by the end of 2027.
