Jiangsu Railway Passenger Volume Hits 254 Million in First Three Quarters
According to the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Jiangsu Province, published on 30 October 2026, railways in Jiangsu carried 254 million passengers across the first three quarters of the year, a year-on-year rise of 2.52 per cent. The figure ranks first among the three provinces and one municipality within the Yangtze River Delta, with multiple transport benchmarks setting new all-time highs.

A sequence of passenger peaks emerged during the period. The province’s spring break coincided with the Qingming Festival to form a six-day combined holiday. Rail services recorded daily passenger volumes above one million for six consecutive days, with a total of 8.644 million journeys over the holiday window. Two new record highs were set within three days: 1.6382 million passengers on 4 April and 1.6819 million passengers on 6 April. Further peak periods followed during the May Day, Dragon Boat and Mid-Autumn festivals.
Thirty-three stations across Jiangsu registered their highest single-day passenger throughput between January and September. These included Nanjing South Station, the busiest railway station in the province, regional hubs such as Lianyungang Station and Yancheng Station, and county-level stations at Jiangyin and Rugao.
Capacity was expanded steadily throughout the nine months. Rail operators ran 217,600 passenger train pairs in total, averaging 797 pairs each day. The daily service count surpassed 930 pairs during the Spring Festival travel rush and rose to 936.5 pairs over the May Day break, marking successive new records for daily train workings.
