Tianshan Gas Field’s Industrial Gas Output Tops 1 Billion Cubic Meters
Reporters learned from PetroChina Xinjiang Oilfield Company on March 27 that the Tianshan Gas Field under the company has recently exceeded 1 billion cubic meters of cumulative industrial natural gas production, reported China News Service.
Located on the southern margin of the Junggar Basin, the Tianshan Gas Field is a core block for China’s large-scale natural gas reserve increase and production growth, noted Li Jun, Deputy Director of the Development Department of PetroChina Xinjiang Oilfield Company, in an interview. It is a typical ultra-deep, ultra-high pressure clastic condensate gas field with complex geological conditions and extremely high development difficulty. “The commissioned gas wells are characterized by large differences in inter-well productivity and water production in some wells, with complex development control factors that have restricted the pace of rapid production increase,” Li added.
Since the gas field entered pilot production in 2021, PetroChina Xinjiang Oilfield Company has continuously tackled key technologies such as ultra-deep gas reservoir geological characterization, reservoir seepage mechanism description and ultra-high pressure gas well pilot production technology. Ten supporting gas wells have been put into production, effectively supporting the rapid exploration, development and commissioning of gas reservoirs such as Hutan 1 and Tianwan 1, and pushing the daily gas production of the field to exceed 1.6 million cubic meters.

Since the 14th Five-Year Plan period, PetroChina Xinjiang Oilfield Company has vigorously implemented the Tianshan Gas Field reserve increase and production growth project. By deepening the integrated exploration and development operation, the company has quickly put into production a number of high-yield gas wells including Hutan 1 and Tianwan 1, and simultaneously put into operation multiple natural gas processing stations such as Tianwan LNG Plant and Hutubi Natural Gas Processing Station.
This has built a complete natural gas production and processing system, effectively promoting the rapid improvement of the gas field’s daily gas production capacity and laying a solid foundation for the cumulative production to exceed 1 billion cubic meters. The breakthrough marks a significant progress in China’s ultra-deep and ultra-high pressure complex gas reservoir development technology, adding new momentum to ensuring national energy security and people’s livelihood energy needs.
Li Jun emphasized that the achievement is the result of continuous technological innovation and intensive efforts in exploration and development. “We have adhered to the integrated exploration and development model, solved a series of technical difficulties in complex gas reservoir development, and realized the efficient development of the Tianshan Gas Field,” he said. The complete production and processing system has also ensured the stable transmission and supply of natural gas, providing strong support for local economic and social development.
