Guangxi's Cross-border E-commerce with ASEAN Grows Steadily, Driven by Policy and Innovation

As an important gateway for China's opening-up and cooperation with ASEAN, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has witnessed robust growth in cross-border e-commerce, with its trade volume with ASEAN surging in the first two months of this year. Data from the Department of Commerce of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region shows that the import and export volume of cross-border e-commerce between Guangxi and ASEAN reached nearly 10 billion yuan in the first two months, a year-on-year increase of more than 40%.

The sound development momentum of cross-border e-commerce in Guangxi is closely linked to the strong support of national policies. In 2025, the State Council approved the establishment of cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zones in Wuzhou, Beihai and Fangchenggang of Guangxi, bringing the total number of such pilot zones in the region to 7, with a coverage rate of 50% among prefecture-level cities, according to People's Network Guangxi Channel. Relying on the construction of these pilot zones, Guangxi's cross-border e-commerce trade network has expanded to more than 220 countries and regions around the world.

In 2025, Guangxi's total cross-border e-commerce import and export volume exceeded 64 billion yuan, playing an increasingly prominent role in driving the transformation and upgrading of foreign trade. To further expand its cooperation with ASEAN, Guangxi has taken a series of targeted measures. It has jointly established the Western Provincial-level Regions E-commerce Cooperation Alliance with the commerce departments of 12 western provinces and regions, continuously expanding the "Silk Road E-commerce" cooperation network facing ASEAN, according to People's Daily Online.

To better connect Chinese e-commerce models with the needs of the ASEAN market, Guangxi has set up 10 overseas training bases in 6 ASEAN countries, including Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, according to People's Daily. Meanwhile, it has optimized the customs clearance environment at border ports to improve the efficiency of cross-border e-commerce cargo clearance, built high-quality land and air logistics routes, and organized the China-ASEAN Cross-border E-commerce Brand Route Promotion Activity.

"Guangxi has been committed to deepening cross-border e-commerce cooperation with ASEAN through institutional, management and service innovations," said an official from the Department of Commerce of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. He added that the region has also carried out talent training programs, having trained 14,000 ASEAN e-commerce talents and held three sessions of the Southeast Asian Cross-border Live Streaming Talent Competition to provide strong talent support for cooperation. With continuous policy empowerment and innovative practices, Guangxi is striving to build a high-level cooperation platform for China-ASEAN cross-border e-commerce.
