Yunnan’s Green Power Trading Volume Surges 219% YoY in Q1 2026
Kunming, Yunnan – As of March 31, the green power trading volume in Yunnan Province for the first quarter of 2026 has exceeded 600 million kilowatt-hours (kWh), reaching 626 million kWh, a year-on-year increase of 219% compared with the same period in 2025, according to Xinhua News Agency reports.
Committed to fostering the green power market, Kunming Power Exchange Center has strived to optimize green power trading services. Since the official launch of green power trading in 2022, the cumulative green power trading volume in Yunnan Province has exceeded 3.1 billion kWh, laying a solid foundation for the high-quality development of the regional green energy industry.

Yunnan’s characteristic industrial ecology, including "green power + advanced manufacturing", "green power + intelligent computing" and "green power + cultural tourism", is accelerating its rise and developing vigorously. Key energy-consuming enterprises in the province, such as those in the electrolytic aluminum and data center industries, have gradually achieved a high proportion of green power consumption, driving new breakthroughs in industrial empowerment through the "green power +" model.
In May 2025, Yunnan took the lead nationwide in realizing the free transfer of green certificates for existing conventional hydropower. Up to now, the cumulative number of "free" green certificates transferred has exceeded 243 million, directly benefiting 71,800 electricity-consuming enterprises. Recently, the Measures for the Transfer of Green Certificates for Existing Conventional Hydropower in Yunnan Province (Trial) has been officially issued.
Through this transfer mechanism, Yunnan is expected to transfer more than 100 million green certificates to local electricity-consuming enterprises free of charge every year, equivalent to more than 100 billion kWh of electricity. This initiative not only reduces the green development costs of enterprises but also further promotes the popularization and application of green power in various industries.
The booming green power trading in Yunnan reflects the province’s unremitting efforts in advancing energy structure transformation and ecological civilization construction. With its abundant clean energy resources and optimized policy mechanisms, Yunnan is steadily building a green, low-carbon and sustainable industrial development system, setting an example for regional green energy development in China.
