Maoming’s 1 Million Ton Natural Graphite Deep Processing Project Signed, Boosting New Material Industry
Maoming Binhai New Area witnessed a major industrial milestone on the 8th, as a cooperation framework agreement for the 1 million ton natural graphite deep processing project was officially signed. Jointly promoted by the Management Committee of Maoming Binhai New Area, Donghua Energy Co., Ltd., and Huamineral Industry Investment Group Co., Ltd., the project is strategically located in the Green Chemical and Hydrogen Energy Industrial Park of the new area, aiming to build a brand-new graphite industrial chain and add a crucial boost for Maoming to seize the opportunities in the new material sector.
It is reported that the raw materials for the project will be sourced from graphite mines in Madagascar. After initial selection, the raw graphite will be transported to Maoming for in-depth processing. The finished products will be widely applied in cutting-edge fields such as new energy, high-end manufacturing and electronic information, providing key material support for the upgrading of the manufacturing industry in the AI era.

“Polypropylene is like cement, carbon fiber is steel bar, and graphite and graphene are carborundum; the combination of the three is the ‘commercial concrete’ of the AI era,” commented Wang Mingxiang, President of Fuji Investment (Group) Co., Ltd. and actual controller of Donghua Energy. He pointed out that the AI-driven manufacturing revolution is inseparable from material breakthroughs at its core, and Maoming’s layout of the carbon-based composite material industrial chain will help it seize a leading position in the global material competition of the AI era.
Industry insiders noted that the project is of great significance for Maoming’s industrial transformation and upgrading. As a key hub for green chemical industry in South China, Maoming has been actively expanding its industrial layout in new materials in recent years, and this graphite deep processing project will further improve the city’s industrial chain layout.
It is revealed that upon completion, the project will further promote the extension, supplementation and strengthening of the industrial chain in the zero-carbon park, help Maoming’s green chemical new material industry upgrade towards high-end and large-scale development, and inject new vitality into the city’s high-quality economic development. Local authorities stated that they will provide full support for the project’s construction, optimizing the business environment and ensuring the smooth progress of the project from construction to operation.
Graphite, as a strategic new material, has broad market prospects in the global green transition and technological innovation. This project not only marks a new step in Maoming’s exploration of the new material industry but also reflects China’s continuous efforts in advancing the high-quality development of the manufacturing sector, providing strong support for the country’s technological independence and industrial upgrading.
