China’s First Container Shipping Carbon Factor Tool Gains International Recognition

Recently, the "Global Container Shipping Carbon Factor" tool, independently developed by COSCO Shipping Technology, has been officially recognized by an international authoritative organization with the full-process green certification technical support from CCS Inspection, a subsidiary of China Ocean Shipping Group. As China’s first container shipping carbon factor tool, this achievement marks the formal integration of green and low-carbon technological outcomes in China’s shipping and logistics sector with international standards, providing technical support for global freight emission reduction and the joint construction of a sustainable global ecosystem.

Strictly adhering to relevant international standards, the "Global Container Shipping Carbon Factor" tool can accurately calculate carbon emissions of container cargo on different routes and generate a full-life-cycle "well-to-ship" greenhouse gas emission report. With the third-party evaluation provided by CCS Inspection, it can issue "green logistics supply chain certification" certificates and award "transport service carbon labels" to enterprises, helping Chinese enterprises cross international green trade barriers and meet the increasingly stringent carbon reduction compliance requirements of the global market.

It also effectively assists transport service enterprises in reducing international carbon compliance costs, laying a solid foundation for export enterprises to cut costs, improve efficiency and achieve green overseas development. As a core tool for carbon accounting in shipping logistics, it adopts the emission factor method, a widely used carbon accounting approach, to ensure the accuracy and traceability of emission data.

Looking ahead, CCS Inspection will continue to deepen the research on shipping carbon footprint and the construction of emission factor database, accelerate the layout of the clean energy carbon label ecosystem, and empower the sustainable development of shipping logistics through technological innovation. Efforts will be made to build an industry-wide, cross-regional and intelligent transport service carbon traceability and certification platform, fully supporting Chinese enterprises to move steadily forward in the global wave of green development.

This recognition not only reflects China’s continuous progress in green and low-carbon technology innovation in the shipping field, but also demonstrates China’s positive commitment to global environmental protection and sustainable development. It will further promote the integration of China’s shipping industry into the global green development system and contribute Chinese wisdom and strength to the realization of global carbon reduction goals.
