Shanghai Port’s Entry-Exit Passenger Volume Tops 10 Million, Driven by Visa Exemption and Service Optimization
As of 9:00 on March 28, the number of entry-exit passengers inspected by Shanghai border inspection authorities this year has exceeded 10 million, according to statistics from the Shanghai General Station of Exit and Entry Border Inspection. The figure includes approximately 5.055 million outbound passengers and 4.945 million inbound passengers, representing a year-on-year increase of 2.6% and 3.3% respectively, showing a steady upward trend.

Since the start of this year, Shanghai border inspection authorities have inspected 1.388 million inbound foreign passengers, a year-on-year increase of 25.7%, accounting for 30.5% of the total inbound passengers. The dividends of visa exemption policies have been continuously released, with 886,000 foreign passengers entering China through visa exemption policies and the 240-hour transit visa exemption policy, accounting for 63.8% of the total inbound foreign passengers.
The successive holding of international exhibitions and events in Shanghai has become a new growth point for attracting foreign visitors. Since March, the number of inbound foreign passengers at Shanghai Port has exceeded 20,000 for 23 consecutive days, reflecting the strong appeal of the city to global visitors.
In addition, the number of entry-exit passengers at the cruise port reached 305,000. To facilitate travel, Shanghai border inspection authorities have continuously optimized customs clearance services and implemented measures such as online filling of foreigner entry cards, which help save time for foreign passengers and improve通关 efficiency.
These efforts are part of Shanghai’s drive to build itself into the "first stop for inbound tourism in China". The steady growth in entry-exit passenger volume not only reflects the increasingly frequent personnel exchanges between Shanghai and the rest of the world, but also highlights the city’s vitality as an international exchange hub, laying a solid foundation for its high-quality opening-up and development.
