2026 China Sci-Fi Conference Opens, Industry Revenue Hits 126.1 Billion Yuan in 2025

Beijing – The 2026 China Sci-Fi Conference kicked off at Shougang Park on the morning of March 27. At the opening ceremony, the China Research Institute for Science Popularization released the "2026 China Sci-Fi Industry Report", which shows that China’s sci-fi industry achieved a total revenue of 126.1 billion yuan in 2025, exceeding the 100 billion yuan mark for three consecutive years, according to Guangming Net reports.

This milestone indicates that China’s sci-fi industry has steadily stepped into a new stage of high-quality development. The report covers five core sectors of the sci-fi industry: sci-fi reading, sci-fi film and television, sci-fi games, sci-fi derivatives and sci-fi cultural tourism, focusing on analyzing the annual development characteristics and future trends of China’s sci-fi industry.

Data from the report shows that the sci-fi reading industry achieved an annual revenue of 5.19 billion yuan, maintaining growth for eight consecutive years, with sci-fi online literature becoming the core growth driver of digital reading. The sci-fi film and television industry generated 8.16 billion yuan in annual revenue, a year-on-year increase of 21.6%, as the influence of domestic sci-fi dramas and animations continued to rise, and AIGC short and medium videos developed rapidly.

The sci-fi game industry recorded an annual revenue of 77.91 billion yuan, with domestic sci-fi games performing impressively in overseas markets. The sci-fi derivatives industry achieved 7.07 billion yuan in annual revenue, a year-on-year surge of 179.4%, where original IPs served as the core driving force of the market, and new forms of products such as AI trendy toys injected new vitality into the industry.

The sci-fi cultural tourism industry generated 27.77 billion yuan in annual revenue, a year-on-year increase of 13.8%. Theme parks contributed the core income, with the continuous increase of local original amusement projects. New scenarios such as VR large spaces, immersive exhibitions and scripted entertainment have continuously expanded the boundaries of experience.

In addition, the report added two new observation dimensions this year: the annual revenue of sci-fi technology and equipment reached 24.74 billion yuan, forming a cross-border application pattern dominated by digital content production technology, led by AI and featuring immersive experience; the annual search popularity of Chinese sci-fi surged by 203.3% year-on-year, with the overseas audience scale of phenomenal IPs continuing to expand.

Hosted jointly by the China Association for Science and Technology and the Beijing Municipal Government, the 2026 China Sci-Fi Conference was held from March 27 to 29, with the theme "Gathering for a Decade, Inspiring a New Era". It included 4 sections and more than 20 activities, namely "Recalling the Decade, Building Consensus, Boosting the Industry, and Embracing the Future". The first Beijing International Sci-Fi and Future Industry Expo and the 2026 Beijing Sci-Fi Carnival were also held concurrently, creating a grand event for the global sci-fi industry.
