Anhui Holds On-site Meeting to Boost Wheat Spring Management and Industrial Development
As the Jingzhe solar term arrives, wheat spring management enters a crucial phase. An on-site meeting for summarizing the 2025 work and deploying the 2026 spring field management of Anhui Wheat Industry Technology System was successfully held in Suzhou from March 6 to 7. More than 70 participants attended the meeting, including station experts from the system, agricultural technology promotion personnel at city, county and district levels, as well as representatives of new business entities and large-scale growers, providing guidance and support for the province’s wheat spring management and industrial development.
Participants conducted an on-site inspection of Anhui’s wheat new variety exhibition base and large-area wheat yield increase demonstration base. An expert from the provincial wheat industry technology system gave a detailed introduction to the current implementation of field management, wheat growth characteristics and subsequent management measures. He pointed out that the key focus of current field management is to "promote tillering to stabilize panicle number, protect florets to increase grain number, and prevent disasters, lodging and senescence to improve grain weight".
He also reminded large-scale growers to closely monitor weather changes, conduct precise weeding, promote weak seedling growth while controlling excessive growth, timely apply jointing and booting fertilizer, and comprehensively prevent and control diseases, pests, weeds and meteorological disasters. The participants walked into the wheat fields to carefully check seedling and soil moisture conditions, and communicated face-to-face with experts on their concerns.

In the meeting room of Suzhou Academy of Agricultural Sciences, a welcome speech was delivered, extending sincere greetings to all experts and growers. Researchers from the Institute of Crop Science, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the chief expert of Anhui Wheat Industry Technology System carried out systematic training for large-scale growers on key technologies of wheat variety selection and whole-growth-period management.
The researcher focused on the progress of high-quality wheat breeding and improvement research ideas in China, while the chief expert elaborated on key technologies for large-area wheat yield increase and spring "promotion-protection-prevention" field management measures in combination with the current wheat seedling situation in Anhui, answering questions for planting entities and laying a solid technical foundation for a bumper wheat harvest.
Their lectures, which were rich in content and highly targeted, combining theoretical height with practical depth, received a warm response from the participants.
In the afternoon, a summary meeting of 2025 work and a deployment meeting of 2026 tasks of Anhui Wheat Industry Technology System were held. At the meeting, the director of Anhui Agricultural Technology Extension Station fully affirmed the work achievements of the system in the past year, and specially thanked it for its technical support in the "promoting weak seedling to strong growth" work for late-sown wheat in 2025.
He emphasized that the system should focus on tackling key bottlenecks in wheat production in the province, effectively convert the adverse factors of late sowing this year into favorable conditions, earnestly implement spring and summer field management, and strive for another bumper summer grain harvest.
Subsequently, station experts and directors of comprehensive test stations from across the province reported the highlights of their 2025 work, and jointly formulated the 2026 work plan and the main tasks and goals during the "15th Five-Year Plan" period. The chief expert commented on each report one by one and put forward new requirements and arrangements for the subsequent R&D, promotion and application of wheat industrial technologies.
Integrating on-site observation, technical training and work deployment, the meeting not only summarized the work achievements of Anhui Wheat Industry Technology System in the past year, but also clarified the work direction for 2026 and the medium and long term. It provided technical support and action guidelines for the effective implementation of wheat spring management in the province, helping the high-quality development of Anhui’s wheat industry and consolidating the line of food security.
