Spring Ploughing in Full Swing in Yining, Xinjiang
Yining, Xinjiang, is fully embracing the crucial spring ploughing period, seizing the optimal sowing window for corn from March 28 to April 15 to steadily advance all related agricultural work, reported Xinhua News Agency on March 28.
On the same day, the fields of Yuanyi Village in Kebek Yuz Township, Yining, were a hive of activity. Tractors rumbled across the land, turning over the soil in preparation for potato planting, while local villagers busied themselves with cutting potato seeds for sowing and using machinery to cover the planted seeds with soil, ensuring a good start for the new growing season.
“We have seized the golden period of spring ploughing to arrange all farming work in an orderly manner, which lays a solid foundation for a bumper harvest this year,” said Li Hua, an agricultural technician from the Yining Agriculture and Rural Bureau, in an interview with the reporter.
According to official data from the Yining Agriculture and Rural Bureau, the city has set a target of sowing 364,300 mu of crops in spring this year, among which 311,500 mu are grain crops. Meanwhile, field management for 20,000 mu of winter wheat has been completed as scheduled. Locally, efforts are being made to finish sowing corn, oilseeds, vegetables, edible fungi, Chinese medicinal herbs and other crops by the end of April.

High-tech has also played an important role in this year’s spring ploughing. In Gaimai Village, Hudiya Yuz Town, a corn precision seeder equipped with the Beidou Navigation Satellite System was seen sowing seed corn on March 28, achieving accurate and precise sowing that improves efficiency and ensures uniform seed distribution.
In line with the requirements of the Main Crop Yield Improvement Campaign, Yining has completed 157,000 mu of high-yield demonstration fields, including 5,000 mu of wheat and 150,000 mu of corn planted with the 40cm+70cm wide-narrow row dense planting mode. The construction of high-yield demonstration fields is advancing steadily, providing strong technical support for increasing crop yields.
Up to now, field management for winter wheat in Yining, including “one spray and three preventions” and fertilization, has been completed on 20,000 mu, effectively ensuring the healthy growth of winter wheat and laying a solid foundation for the summer grain harvest.
