Yueyang’s Ecologically Farmed Fresh Fish Makes First Direct Supply to Hong Kong
On April 13, a 9.6-meter professional live fish transport vehicle loaded with 4,000 kilograms of ecologically farmed bighead carp departed from Chaisang Lake Wharf in Junshan District, Yueyang City, Hunan Province, heading for Hong Kong. This marks the first time that fresh fish from Yueyang has been directly supplied to the Hong Kong market, opening a new channel for high-quality aquatic products from inland China to enter the Hong Kong market.
As dawn broke, the surface of Chaisang Lake glistened with golden ripples. After fishing boats docked at the shore, workers lifted lively bighead carp out of the water one by one, weighing, sorting and loading them in one smooth operation. Inside the constant-temperature and oxygenated containers, water gurgled, ensuring the fish remained fresh throughout the 960-kilometer journey from Yueyang to Hong Kong.

According to China News Service, relying on the high-quality water areas where the Yangtze River and Dongting Lake meet, Yueyang has implemented an "artificial release and natural breeding" large-water-surface ecological breeding model, covering more than 600,000 mu of water. In recent years, the local government has continuously promoted large-lake ecological breeding, standardized pond renovation and tail water treatment, cultivating fresh fish with firm meat and no muddy taste in the "clear blue water".
Before the first direct supply, Yueyang Customs conducted strict inspections and customs clearance guidance on the Hong Kong supply base to ensure that every fish meets the inspection and quarantine standards for aquatic products supplied to Hong Kong. "We have carried out comprehensive detection on water quality, fish health and other indicators to ensure food safety," said a relevant person in charge of Yueyang Customs.
This direct supply not only allows Hong Kong citizens to taste fresh fish from the inland hinterland, but also opens up a green channel for Yueyang’s aquatic products to directly enter the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. For Yueyang’s fishery industry, it is also an opportunity for the upgrading of the entire industrial chain.
All links including breeding, fishing, transportation and quality control will align with higher standards, promoting the transformation of local aquatic products towards branding and refinement. "The direct supply to Hong Kong has raised higher requirements for our breeding and transportation, and we will continue to improve the ecological breeding level to provide better products," said a fisherman from Chaisang Lake.
In recent years, Yueyang has strengthened agricultural cooperation with the Greater Bay Area, selling a large number of famous and high-quality "Yue-style" agricultural products to the region, with an annual sales volume exceeding 5 billion yuan. According to Hunan Daily, the "Yuepin Youxuan · Fresh Delivery to Hong Kong and Macao" direct supply channel was officially opened in January this year, enabling the first batch of fresh agricultural products to reach Hong Kong and Macao within 12 hours.
The first direct supply of fresh fish to Hong Kong marks a new starting point for the construction of Yueyang’s agricultural product supply system to Hong Kong, further deepening the agricultural cooperation between Yueyang and the Greater Bay Area and enriching the food supply market in Hong Kong.
