Qingdao’s "Field Classroom" Brings Farming Expertise to Rural Doorsteps

Throughout this year, Qingdao’s Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has closely aligned its efforts with critical farming schedules, rolling out a sustained "Field Classroom" service designed to deliver tailored agricultural support directly to farmers.

Adopting a practical model of on-site lectures, hands-on demonstrations and immediate problem-solving, the initiative pools expertise from scientific research institutes, agricultural technicians and seasoned local farmers. 

It focuses on key areas including stable grain production, fruit and vegetable cultivation, eco-friendly pest control and smart agricultural machinery. 

By moving technical training from classrooms to field edges, the programme addresses farmers’ daily production challenges while accelerating the uptake of advanced farming technologies and new crop varieties.

In the green grain demonstration zone of Dazhen Town, West Coast New Area, researchers from the Shandong Peanut Research Institute and agronomists from Qingdao’s Agricultural Technology Centre have led sessions on techniques such as wheat’s "one-spray, three-preventions" and peanut cultivation methods. 

These sessions not only equip farmers with actionable skills but also bridge the gap between agricultural innovation and on-the-ground application, ensuring the "last mile" of support for farmers’ income growth is fully connected.

The "Field Classroom" initiative reflects Qingdao’s commitment to boosting agricultural modernisation and rural vitalisation. 

By integrating academic research, technical guidance and local knowledge, the city is fostering a more resilient, efficient and sustainable agricultural sector, empowering farmers to increase yields and incomes through science and technology.
