Shandong Advances High-Standard Farmland Construction to Safeguard Food Security

Grains are the lifeblood of the people and a precious treasure of the country. Food security is the "ballast stone" for maintaining national stability and development. Multiple high-standard farmland construction projects undertaken by the Construction Group affiliated to Shandong Provincial Land Development Group are advancing steadily. Through a series of measures including land improvement, facility supporting and technological empowerment, the projects effectively safeguard the cultivated land red line, enhance grain production capacity and consolidate the foundation of national security.

China attaches great importance to high-standard farmland construction as a key measure to ensure food security. The General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council have issued the Implementation Plan for Gradually Converting Permanent Basic Farmland into High-Standard Farmland, aiming to build cultivated land into modern fertile fields suitable for farming, drought and flood resistant, and high and stable yield, further consolidating the foundation of food security.

The 2025 high-standard farmland construction project in Pingyin County adheres to source control to return "good farmland" to "grain farmland". By carrying out land leveling, optimizing field layout, constructing supporting irrigation pipe networks and renovating field roads, the project has improved the disaster resistance and production efficiency of cultivated land, ensuring every inch of land is used for grain production and strictly guarding the cultivated land red line.

In 2025, the 26,200-mu high-standard farmland construction project in Mengyin County has opened up the "last mile" for modern agriculture. Focusing on solving the problem of difficult access of agricultural machinery to fields, the newly built and upgraded field roads directly connect farmers with their farmland, significantly facilitating mechanized operations. The simultaneous upgrading of efficient water-saving irrigation systems has improved water use efficiency, promoting grain yield and quality while providing infrastructure support for agricultural modernization.

The 2025 high-standard farmland construction project in Yishui County relies on technological empowerment to improve the quality and efficiency of cultivated land. Through the implementation of an integrated water and fertilizer project, the project has further increased grain output efficiency. The improvement of cultivated land quality and benefits has stimulated farmers' enthusiasm for grain planting, laying a solid foundation for stabilizing grain production at the source and preventing cultivated land loss.

The high-standard farmland construction project in Xumeng Town, Wulian County, Rizhao City has entered the final stage. Adhering to solid work and intensive cultivation, the project has achieved solid results in curbing the "non-agriculturalization" and "non-grain conversion" of cultivated land through land refinement and other projects, effectively consolidating the foundation of food security.

Shandong Provincial Land Development Group will continue to deepen high-standard farmland construction, comprehensively promote comprehensive land improvement, facility upgrading and technological empowerment, and continuously improve the comprehensive grain production capacity. These projects not only practice the strategy of storing grain in land and technology, but also set a good example for safeguarding national food security through practical actions.
