Fujin, China’s Top Grain-Producing County, Speeds Up Spring Ploughing with Technology

Fujin City in Heilongjiang Province, known as “China’s Grain Capital”, is the county with the highest grain output in China. In recent days, busy and orderly production scenes have been seen everywhere in the fields of Fujin as local farmers seize the agricultural season to push forward spring ploughing in full swing.

People’s Network reports that spring ploughing is a crucial link in ensuring annual grain production, and Fujin has been accelerating the pace of agricultural modernization in recent years, integrating advanced technologies into all links of grain production to stabilize and increase grain output. This year, the city has made solid efforts in seedling cultivation, agricultural machinery guarantee and technical guidance to lay a solid foundation for a bumper harvest.

Walking into the seedling cultivation base of Northeast Paddy Field Modern Agricultural Machinery Professional Cooperative in Fujin, a number of rice sowing and soil covering machines are running at full speed. Farmers skillfully operate the equipment to complete the whole process of tray laying, sowing, soil covering and watering, presenting a vivid picture of busy spring ploughing.

The rice seeds selected for seedling sowing by the cooperative this year are standardized cultivated in an intelligent seed soaking and germination workshop. Compared with the traditional manual seed soaking and germination mode, this intelligent system relies on modern agricultural technologies such as the Internet of Things and precise temperature control to realize full-process automatic and refined management and control. Technicians can real-time monitor and accurately adjust key indicators such as water temperature and liquid level to firmly control the quality of germinated seeds.

Yang Chunhong, a technician of the cooperative, said, “The intelligent system can effectively ensure that the rice germination rate reaches 95%, and one person can complete the seed soaking and germination work for the entire plot. This year, we still plant long-grain fragrant rice and have signed orders with two enterprises.” She added that staff from Fujin Agricultural Technology Extension Center also go deep into the field greenhouses, teaching farmers operation points by hand around key links such as sowing depth control, seedling soil humidity adjustment and greenhouse temperature and humidity management, providing full-process technical support.

Agricultural machinery is also a key link in spring ploughing. At the agricultural machinery parking lot of Xinchao Agricultural Planting Cooperative Union in Fujin, a number of high-horsepower tractors equipped with Beidou navigation automatic driving systems are neatly arranged. Technicians and agricultural machinery operators work together to conduct a comprehensive “physical examination” on the tractors to ensure they are in good working condition.

Chen Zhaohui, a member of the cooperative, said, “This year, the cooperative has focused on calibrating and upgrading the Beidou navigation system and signal receiving antenna. After debugging, the agricultural machinery can achieve centimeter-level operation, with the error of straight-line driving controlled within 2 centimeters, truly achieving ‘straight driving, uniform ploughing and accurate sowing’.” People’s Network notes that Beidou satellite navigation technology has been deeply integrated into all links of agricultural production, greatly improving the intelligence level and production efficiency of agriculture in China.

This year, the planned sown area of crops in Fujin is 5.6773 million mu, including 446,900 mu of rice, 2.9521 million mu of corn, 2.2481 million mu of soybeans and 30,200 mu of other crops. With technology as the guide, Fujin has been focusing on key links of agricultural production, refining and implementing various work such as technical guidance, field management and agricultural machinery guarantee to promote spring ploughing in an orderly manner.

As “China’s Grain Capital”, Fujin has been adhering to the path of agricultural modernization, relying on technology to improve production efficiency and grain quality. The busy spring ploughing scene not only reflects the efforts of local farmers to pursue a bumper harvest, but also demonstrates the strong vitality of modern agriculture in China, laying a solid foundation for ensuring national food security.
