High-resilience Wheat Variety Delivers Stable Yield in Challenging Henan Growing Conditions
As the Grain Buds solar term arrives, wheat fields across Huaibin County in Henan Province have entered the mature harvesting period. Golden ears of wheat stretch across vast farmlands, presenting a promising summer harvest scene. On 21 May, expert teams from Henan Provincial Wheat Industrial Technology System conducted field sampling and yield measurement for the high-quality wheat variety Xinmai 136 planted in Wangwan Village.
The local growing season has faced multiple adverse factors, including late sowing, frequent disease risks and excessive wind and rainfall. Despite the harsh conditions, Xinmai 136 has maintained stable yields thanks to its strong stress resistance and high-yielding traits, consolidating foundations for this year’s summer grain production.
Field assessment was carried out following standard agricultural evaluation procedures. Researchers selected representative field plots at random, measured planting areas, counted spike numbers and recorded grain data comprehensively to ensure accurate and authentic yield results. The variety demonstrated outstanding field performance with full and plump wheat spikes and robust plant growth.

The high yield performance of Xinmai 136 has impressed local growers. Some field plots were sown in late November with a seeding rate of merely 9 kilograms per mu, resulting in sparse initial seedlings. With scientific field management throughout the growing cycle, the variety developed strong tillering capacity and achieved vigorous late growth. The variety shows excellent lodging resistance, with most spikes bearing 40 to 50 grains, outperforming ordinary wheat varieties in actual field output.
Professional field data verifies the variety’s comprehensive advantages in yield formation and stress tolerance. Xinmai 136 can produce over 300,000 spikes per mu, with each spike holding more than 30 grains and large individual spikes exceeding 40 grains. Its stable 1000-grain weight guarantees solid yield potential. Continuous rainy weather has caused lodging and disease problems in many local wheat fields, while Xinmai 136 maintains upright plant structure and healthy green flag leaves, supporting sustained grain filling with minimal disease incidence.
Current weather conditions bring new challenges to harvesting operations. Frequent rainfall forecasts require local farmers to seize sunny windows for timely harvesting. Proper harvesting schedules effectively prevent grain lodging, pre-harvest sprouting and mildew caused by wet weather. Recently harvested grains with high moisture content need timely drying treatment to reduce moisture levels to around 13 percent, enabling safe grain storage and full grain collection.
High-quality seeds serve as the core driver of grain yield improvement. This systematic field evaluation further validates Xinmai 136’s strengths in stable production, disease resistance and lodging tolerance. It provides practical support for variety optimisation and targeted seed promotion across Xinyang region.
Grain production in Huaibin County is shifting from traditional weather-reliant cultivation to modern farming modes featuring improved seeds, technological support and refined field management. Local agricultural authorities will continue promoting high-quality wheat varieties and standardised planting techniques. The integration of superior seeds and scientific cultivation methods will steadily enhance regional grain production capacity and reinforce grain security foundations.
