Inner Mongolia Agricultural University Establishes Research Institute in Bayannur to Boost Agri‑Tech Innovation
According to People’s Network Inner Mongolia Channel, a signing and unveiling ceremony for the joint establishment of the Bayannur Research Institute by Bayannur Municipal People’s Government and Inner Mongolia Agricultural University, alongside a special release event for the university’s scientific and technological achievements, took place on June 4, 2026 at Inner Mongolia Bayannur National Agricultural High‑Tech Industrial Demonstration Zone.
Located on the 40th parallel north, a prime latitude for farming and animal husbandry, Bayannur boasts robust industries including mutton sheep, grain and oil crops, and characteristic fruits and vegetables. The city is currently advancing the “Five Highs and Five Zones” development strategy, with agricultural and rural modernisation increasingly relying on scientific and technological innovation. Inner Mongolia Agricultural University features profound research strength and outstanding academic disciplines, and has delivered a host of fruitful cooperation results with Bayannur in ecological restoration and improved variety breeding over the years. The newly launched Bayannur Research Institute acts as a vital platform to deepen collaborative innovation between the local government and the university. Bayannur will optimise policy and resource support to remove barriers for integrated development of industry, academia and research, and speed up the local application of scientific and technological achievements.

Drawing on its 74 years of educational development and solid research capabilities, the university will gather high-calibre teachers and research resources via the new institute. R&D work will centre on key sectors such as mutton sheep breeding, ecological conservation and food processing. A technology innovation centre for the mutton sheep industry will be set up to continuously supply technologies and professional talents for local industrial progress. Representatives from both sides signed the cooperation document and unveiled the institute during the ceremony.
Right after the ceremony, the 24th “Mengkeju” special sci-tech achievements release event for Inner Mongolia Agricultural University kicked off, organised by Bayannur Municipal Science and Technology Bureau. Held via offline presentations and online live streaming, the event released twelve cutting-edge technological achievements tailored to local industrial demands. The technologies cover a full range of fields including improved breeding of mutton sheep, digital pasture construction, livestock disease detection, deep processing of specialty food, green plant protection for fruits, ecological river crab farming, Wuliangsuhai wetland management, straw recycling, saline-alkali land improvement, intelligent farm monitoring, photovoltaic ecological restoration and biodiversity monitoring, which fully match the needs of local agricultural enterprises for technological upgrading and ecological governance.
The Municipal Science and Technology Bureau has coordinated the whole process and delivered proactive services. Relying on the research institute, it pools premium innovation resources, applies for projects targeting industrial challenges, and arranges senior experts to offer on-site technical guidance. Regular exchange platforms for universities and enterprises have been built for key technological research, achievement transformation, innovation platform construction, industry-university-research integration and talent cultivation, smoothing the whole process that brings laboratory research results to production lines.
The Municipal Science and Technology Bureau will take the launch of the research institute as a new starting point to sustain long-term cooperation between the city and the university. It will push forward research on core technologies across the entire agricultural and livestock industrial chain in the Hetao area, improve supporting services for achievement commercialisation, reinforce innovation platforms and talent training. More research outcomes will be put into industrial use, lifting the development level of Inner Mongolia Bayannur National Agricultural High-Tech Industrial Demonstration Zone and driving the green and high-quality development of modern farming and animal husbandry across the city.
