Honeysuckle Blooms as “Happiness Flower” in Henan’s Rural Revitalisation

Xin’an, Henan, June 10 — Farmers in Diaozui Village, Zhengcun Town, Xin’an County, Luoyang City, are busy harvesting honeysuckle amid fine weather on June 7, picking blooms at the peak of their quality.

Nestled in the shallow hills of western Henan, Diaozui Village has adopted a “Party branch + cooperative + farmers” model in recent years, developing concentrated honeysuckle cultivation tailored to local conditions. Freshly harvested flowers are dried uniformly before being purchased by partner enterprises at a guaranteed minimum price.

The crop has unlocked idle land and opened new income streams, earning it the local nickname “Happiness Flower”. In Henan, a province with a long history of herbal cultivation, honeysuckle is recognised as a high-value medicinal herb with strong market demand.

Across the region, similar models have lifted rural incomes. Modern drying and processing help raise product value, while stable procurement arrangements reduce market risks for growers. The planting cycle aligns with traditional farming calendars, allowing villagers to work close to home and boost earnings without leaving their communities.

As the harvest progresses, local authorities plan to expand the supply chain, support further processing, and promote branded honeysuckle products. The aim is to strengthen the sector’s competitiveness and create sustained, stable growth for rural households across western Henan.
